Transforming 400 Million Plastic Bottles, SABIC Launched A New Sustainable LNP™ Compound
Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), a global diversified chemical company, today launched a thin-wall, bromine-free/chlorine-free flame retardant grade compound LNP™ ELCRIN™ WF0051iQ. The latest addition to the growing family of sustainable iQ resins, this product is an excellent material of choice for electrical applications. The new grade enables SABIC to further convert post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles by chemically upcycling them into polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin. By the end of 2022, SABIC has transformed 400 million 0.5 liter PET bottles through its iQ upcycling technology.

LNP ELCRIN WF0051iQ compounds have an 11% lower carbon footprint compared to standard fossil-based virgin PBT resins. This is mainly attributable to the incorporation of at least 27% recycled material content per kilogram of LNP ELCRIN WF0051iQ compound, equivalent to about 39 0.5 liter PET bottles.
